Coinciding with the contentious incarceration of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich in Russia, this year’s celebration assumes heightened importance. In solidarity, his family will join 2,600 other attendees at the Washington Hilton soiree.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will grace the occasion, accompanied by Roy Wood Jr., “The Daily Show” correspondent and designated entertainer. Wood provided a sneak peek into his comedic strategy, prognosticating that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ ongoing cultural skirmishes and Disney disputes will remain unscathed by any quips. The comedian, in conversation with CNN, posited, “You can’t change that person’s mind with a joke.”

The capital’s illustrious black-tie event draws an eclectic mix of celebrities and media tycoons, with festivities unfolding throughout Washington. Anticipated dinner guests include reality TV icon Lisa Vanderpump, crooner John Legend, and his spouse, Chrissy Teigen, a model and television luminary.
