Coinciding with the contentious incarceration of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich in Russia, this year’s celebration assumes heightened importance. The comedian, in conversation with CNN, posited, “You can’t change that person’s mind with a joke.”

The capital’s illustrious black-tie event draws an eclectic mix of celebrities and media tycoons, with festivities unfolding throughout Washington. Anticipated dinner guests include reality TV icon Lisa Vanderpump, crooner John Legend, and his spouse, Chrissy Teigen, a model and television luminary.
