In a bold move, Chinese automaker Haval has lifted the curtains off its latest hybrids, the Xiaolong and Xiaolong Max, at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 18th. The vehicles have created quite a buzz and rightfully so – they present as affordable, highly equipped, and only available in hybrid versions. Interestingly, Haval drew inspiration from a mythical creature, the dragon, for the name of these vehicles, with Xiaolong translating to ‘brave dragon.’

Get to Know Haval Xiaolong 2023

Haval Xiaolong 2023 stands out in comparison to some of its close competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. With a length of 4,600 mm, a width of 1,877 mm, and a height of 1,675 mm, the car provides enough space for a comfortable drive. Additionally, the wheelbase of 2,710 mm adds to its stability on the roads. The car boasts a unique design with no radiator grille, making it a visual treat. The T-shaped headlights add to its bold and unconventional look.

Inside, the Haval Xiaolong 2023 has two displays on the front panel and a high central tunnel that separates the front seats. The luggage compartment offers ample space, ranging from 420 to 1175 litres. If that isn’t impressive enough, the vehicle also offers options like a panoramic roof, automatic parking, and a surround view camera. It packs a punch with its 1.5-litre petrol four-cylinder engine and an electric motor with a total power output of 190 horsepower. Interestingly, the Haval Xiaolong 2023 can travel up to 96 km in electric mode, which is a huge plus point.

Get to Know Haval Xiaolong Max

The Haval Xiaolong Max is even more significant than its counterpart and measures up to the Hyundai Santa Fe and Skoda Kodiaq. With a length of 4758 mm, a width of 1895 mm, and a height of 1725 mm, the vehicle offers enough space for a comfortable ride. The wheelbase of 2800 mm adds to its balance on the road. The Chinese SUV is a five-seater and is identified by its frameless radiator grille and G-shaped headlights.

Inside the Haval Xiaolong Max, the car provides three displays, with one specifically for the front passenger. Additionally, the vehicle offers options such as a heads-up display, adaptive cruise control, and two wireless smartphone chargers. The Haval Xiaolong Max comes in two versions, the front-wheel-drive version offering 190-horsepower and an all-wheel-drive version providing 279-horsepower. In the latter case, the car takes only 6.8 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h and can travel up to 90 km on electric power.

Final Thoughts

Haval’s new Xiaolong and Xiaolong Max SUVs bring with them a refreshing perspective to the hybrid car market. With their unique features and affordable pricing, they provide considerable competition to established players such as the Hyundai Tucson and Santa Fe. The vehicles’ modern design, impressive performance, and user-friendly options make them a valuable addition to the SUV market.
