A Daunting Financial Landscape
A recent survey conducted by The Trussell Trust, a food bank charity, has uncovered that Brighton residents are grappling with alarmingly high levels of financial insecurity. Nearly half of the respondents are feeling financially vulnerable and are struggling with anxiety as they face the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The survey also reveals that over 50% of respondents are grappling with poor mental health due to this crisis.
Accessibility Woes
The survey also illuminates the difficulties faced by individuals seeking mental health support, who found it immensely challenging to access food support services in the city. In an effort to address this, The Trussell Trust has teamed up with Deliveroo to introduce a novel feature. A ’round-up’ feature has been incorporated into purchases, enabling customers to donate small amounts on top of their meal costs.
The Deliveroo and The Trussell Trust Partnership
The funds raised through this partnership will be used to provide millions of meals to those in need, as well as to aid in the facilitation of other support services. The collaboration with Citizens’ Advice and Mind will offer personalized financial guidance to assist individuals in boosting their income, thereby obviating the need for them to visit a food bank in the future.
Samantha Stapley, chief operations and people officer at The Trussell Trust, has acknowledged the potential of the partnership to tackle the multifaceted challenges faced by Brighton residents. She stated that “the partnership is not only helping provide emergency food to help food banks meet the rising levels of need but also funding initiatives that connect people to mental health support and deliver personalized financial guidance to help people increase their income so that they do not need to visit a food bank again.”
